Miami Ranks Among MovieMaker 2005 Top 10 Cities for Independent Filmmakers

Designated a "School to Work" program by the
Montana Office of Public Instruction, the MAPS goal is to encourage a
student's creativity and provide an opportunity for a future career in the
media. "There is a significant
amount of enthusiasm and pride exhibited by the students who work in this
program," Sybrant said. "When their first film was screened for students,
teachers, parents and school board members, the reaction was very positive. We are looking forward
to future projects.

Unranked in five previous editions of the publication's Top Ten listings,
Miami surged to number eight on the prestigious list after editors of
MovieMaker talked with writers, directors, film scouts, film office
representatives and dozens of other "in-the-know" moviemakers about Miami's
celluloid friendly features.

"We've set up a media arts and filmmaking program
for rural public school kids 12-18; it's our modest attempt to deter
extinction.

Added Rosten: "The Corvallis program has already been renewed for another
year and we'll expand to other rural school districts in 2006.' "

Corvallis Superintendent Daniel Sybrant stated that the Media Arts program
has had an important impact on students this year. Miami-Dade County, with its
supporting cast of top-billing attributes such as its weather, locations, film
festivals and infrastructure, secured 4he number eight`position in the well-
known trade publication.
"We're absolutely ecstatic about the news," said Jeff Peel, director of
the Miami-Dade Mayor's Office of Film + Entertainment. "An independent film by
Cornerstone Pictures called 'Retirement' starring Rip Torn, George Segal and
Peter Falk was here for about two weeks.
