New Jersey Gains 588 Manufacturing Plants in 2005

gained 588
manufacturing plants but lost over 4,866 jobs in 2005 according to the 2006
New Jersey
Manufacturers Register, an industrial guide published annually by
Manufacturers' News, Inc.
"Many of the 588 new plants are in the medical, food, and
printing/publishing industries," said
Tom Dubin, President and CEO of
Manufacturers News, "and many of these employ fewer than 15 workers
.
The majority of New Jersey manufacturers are located in the Northeast
section of the state
, housing 7,474 plants in its nine counties, or 67% of the
state's manufacturers.com . Connecticut
ranks second with 6,203 plants or 24% of New England
manufacturing and 26.6% manufacturing employment
, while New Hampshire ranks
third with 3,146 plants and 99,327 jobs.
