In New York during the early 1940's many of the artists
who would later be
known as the pioneers of Abstract Expressionism were involving themselves with
the European Surrealist emigres. Fast friends, Kamrowski, Pollock,
and fellow Federal Arts Project
artist William Baziotes collaborated on a
series of paintings in the winter of 1940-41, one of which
survived, titled
"Collaborative Painting," and is included in Weinstein Gallery's exhibition,
currently
on loan to The National Academy Museum's "Surrealism USA" exhibit.
