Part of National LGBT Health Awareness Week

PHILADELPHIA , Several LGBT-focused organizations
are joining forces with the City of Philadelphia to sponsor a health fair on
Wednesday, March 15th, in order to shine the spotlight on the health of the
region 's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities.

About CASA
The National CASA Association is a non-profit organization that provides
training, technical assistance, research, media and public awareness services
to over 930 programs nationwide.

" So in keeping with that theme , local organizers are making it
easier for LGBT individuals to do just that. The
finished art work will be featured at a Gallery Reception and Art
Auction at Tamayo Restaurant in Los Angeles on April 28.

The local effort is being headed up by The SafeGuards Project / LGBT Health
Resource Center, Mazzoni Center, Philadelphia FIGHT, GALAEI, The ATTIC Youth
Center, as well as city representatives from the Mayor's Office and the
Department of Public Health .lgbthealth.

How: The theme of the art program is "Where do I come From, Where am I
Going?" The art workshop will help youth explore their identity
and reflect it through a self portrait.

mixed media techniques and gain a positive perspective about
themselves -- who they are as an individual and hope for what
they can become.

programs to promote and support quality volunteer advocacy to help assure each

Local LGBT Organizations to Sponsor Health Fair

City officials will be on hand for a 2PM press conference, prior to the
start of the health fair, to read a Mayoral Proclamation declaring March 12th-
18th LGBT Health Awareness Week here in Philadelphia. Awareness Week is
sponsored and organized nationally by the National Coalition for LGBT Health.

Why: The program was developed to give children an opportunity to
express themselves freely through art and to garner community
support for the nearly 30,000 abused and neglected children under
the Los Angeles Dependency Court's jurisdiction and in particular
the need for CASA volunteers to help place children into safe,
loving and permanent homes.

COLAGE is a support group organization with a mission is to foster the growth of daughters and sons of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender parents by providing education, support and community on local and international levels, to advocate for rights, and to promote acceptance and awareness that love makes a family.

Shein says among the offerings at the health fair will be blood pressure
screenings, breast health consults, as well as a machine to test carbon
monoxide levels for smokers .
There will also be a presentation on "HIV and Renal Disease.m.

foster children in court.

The health fair will take place right in the heart of the "Gayborhood," at
the William Way Community Center, at 1315 Spruce Street. Who: The National Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)
Association, CASA of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Foster Care
Awareness Coalition in collaboration with Muralist Judy Baca,
founder of the Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC), has
introduced an art program for youth in the Los Angeles foster
care system.
