Kershaw is a former board member and co-president of the board for
Outfest , the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. He received his
Bachelor of Arts from Dartmouth College before studying at the University of
Jordan under a Fulbright Scholarship, and then attending Stanford Law School. Over the years, the organization has
grown to include not only the original marching band, but the Hollywood Wind
Ensemble concert band and a number of small ensembles, and now sponsors a
scholarship program for youth in the performing arts.

Two major exhibitions are featured during
the month at the Pacific Design Center in West: "Designed in Sweden" an
exhibition presenting art, glass, furnishings , textiles and industrial
design recently shown at the Museum of London (the installation will be
shown in New York following its Los Angeles debut); and a special showing
of Volvo's futuristic automotive and industrial design. The theme of the concert is Broadway Milestones: 75 Years of
Striking Up the Band, and features the Hollywood Wind Ensemble under the baton
of Artistic Director Bill Masonheimer .
