"The addition of the "Best in America" Seal of Excellence from ICA truly
validates the MMRF's sound stewardship of donor funds and separates us from
other nonprofit organizations, " said Scott Santarella, Executive Director and
Chief Administration Officer of the MMRF.org.

in Baltimore are urging Congress to leave the existing in-kind

With this newest honor, the MMRF is now the only nonprofit organization
that also is 4-star rated from Charity Navigator, A+ rated by the American
Institute of Philanthropy, meets the Better Business Bureau's Wise Giving
Alliance for Charitable Accountability, and is recognized by the National
Cancer Institute (NCI) for meeting the NCI's stringent research review
guidelines for funding research grants.
Approximately 50,000 people in the United States are living with multiple
myeloma and an estimated 16,000 new cases are diagnosed each year.

Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) Named 'Best in America' By Independent Charities of America (ICA)

Although
the peak age of onset of multiple myeloma is 65 to 70 years of age, recent
statistics suggest that incidence is increasing and at an earlier age.

The ICA Seal of Excellence is awarded to charities that upon rigorous
independent review have been able to certify, document, and demonstrate on an
annual basis that they meet the highest standards of public accountability,
program effectiveness and cost effectiveness. Despite
recent advances in treating multiple myeloma, the five-year survival rate for
multiple myeloma is only 32 percent, one of the lowest of all cancers.

About the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation
The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) was established in 1998 as
a 501(c)3 non-profit organization by twin sisters Karen Andrews and Kathy
Giusti, a newly diagnosed multiple myeloma patient, with the unique mission of
accelerating the search for a cure for multiple myeloma.

Philanthropic giving is an important aspect of many people's financial outlook-- and plans for a large gift or bequest inevitably impact their financial planning .

guidestar stated

, The Multiple Myeloma Research
Foundation (MMRF) announced today that it has received the "Best in America"
Seal of Excellence from Independent Charities of America (ICA), a nonprofit
association that represents America's best charities. Currently, the MMRF is funding more than 30 new compounds
and approaches -- in pre-clinical testing and Phase I, II and III clinical
trials -- that show promise in treating patients at all stages of the disease. The
changes could affect everything from real estate, art, and
intellectual property, to food, books, and household items. After the legislation took effect this year, the
number of donated units was off by 50% in January and February from
the same period last year, and the average revenue per unit dropped
from $700 to $500.

Of special concern is a proposal to eliminate or modify income tax
deductions for non-cash--"in-kind"--charitable contributions. Following
upon its successful assault on the vehicle donation rules late last
year, the Senate Finance Committee is now considering fundamental
changes to gifts of just about everything else. Stronger IRS policing of donor valuations
would be a much less intrusive response to perceived valuation abuses
than the draconian measures being considered , which would destroy
valuable charitable giving incentives.

To give
just one example, prior to changes in the vehicle donation rules last
year, Courage Center of Minneapolis, Minnesota had annual gross
revenue from vehicle donations of $2.

The timing and nature of the gift can impact their tax implications, worth to the beneficiary, and legal constraints on the estate; these factors can outweigh even the choice of the philanthropy itself.

About Multiple Myeloma
Multiple myeloma, an incurable cancer of the plasma cell, represents one
percent of all cancer diagnosis and two percent of all cancer deaths. AFP conference attendees are calling senators en masse to
express their concerns.

In addition, the donor may seek advice on how to ensure the survival of their trust or foundation, how to enforce the terms under which the money is given, and related concerns.

"The MMRF is a one-in-a-million
organization and we are proud to be recognized as one of this country's very
best.
Many charities--including America's great universities, park
systems, and museums--rely heavily on non-cash contributions, and
changes in the tax laws would vitally affect this lifeline. However, AFP members maintain that the
inability of the IRS to address improper behavior by some donors
should not unfairly penalize legitimate charities and the communities
and populations they serve.

Of the one million charities
operating in the United States today, it is estimated that fewer than 50,000
meet or exceed these standards, and, of those, fewer than 2,000 have been
awarded the Seal of Excellence.
The proposals on non-cash contributions were ostensibly created to
reduce valuation misstatements.
