Although the intensity of some psychological symptoms, such as depression,
declined over time within the trauma group, patients continued to report
higher levels of mental health and social service needs than the control group
at all assessment intervals, notes principal author Jennifer Lento, Ph.
The current study administered brief psychological and mental
health/social service needs assessments to 336 facial trauma patients and
119 non-trauma patients 10 days, 6 months and 12 months after treatment .
Participants are required to make 10 visits to the clinic over a
period of 13 weeks, and participants will be interviewed at those
times.
The research is the culmination of a preliminary study conducted
through an anonymous survey of medical histories and internet use sent
to the families of adolescents diagnosed with an eating disorder at
LPCH since 1997.

college, complete college and get a job consistent with their
educational level, and the condition is associated with increased loss
of work time as well as decreased life satisfaction. Of course, they learned similar
tactics from sites promoting eating disorders: more than 60 percent of
adolescents visiting those sites tried new techniques as a result . But in the meantime, they hope their
results will serve as a wake-up call for physicians treating
adolescents with eating disorders, who may underestimate the influence
the Web sites may be having on their patients.

Facial trauma patients, most of whom had been involved in interpersonal
