PA DEP Announces Hatching of
First Falcon Egg; Banding of Fledglings Targeted for May 26
In 2002, 2003 and 2004, two young males
and one female survived. The bands will help scientists
and researchers identify the falcons and
monitor their progress in the wild. This is an opportune time for banding since the eyases now have
sufficient feathers to keep warm while their parents are away, but are not yet
old enough to hop
away from the scientists. The banding today took place in a relatively safe and secure
environment

viewers who tune into DEP's falcon Web site with its streaming live video may

McGinty said." Viewers will be able to

biologists use alphanumeric bands to study peregrine
falcons as they migrate,
pair with other peregrines and set up breeding territory.
In 2000

the peregrine falcon has been removed from the federal Endangered
