Micron's Headquarters Becomes a Laboratory for Teachers Learning to ``Engineer the Future''

The workshop's goal is to use Micron 's campus, workstations,
products, programs and more as a valuable learning laboratory.

facilitate on-going partnerships with engineers , scientists, chemists,
mathematicians and other professionals and we then provide the
opportunity and funding for these teachers to complete lessons for
their students using the activities in which they have participated,"

Micron K-12 event that influenced them to apply for work at the

NEW YORK, Online registration and instructions for
entering the 2005-06 Siemens Westinghouse Competition in Math, Science +
Technology have been posted today on the Siemens Foundation website,
http://www.collegeboard. 5930 from 9am to 5pm EDT . Students may enter as individuals or as part of a team. Entries
are judged at the regional level by esteemed scientists and faculty at six
leading research universities: Carnegie Mellon University; University of Notre
Dame; University of California, Berkeley; Massachusetts Institute of
Technology; Georgia Institute of Technology; and The University of Texas at
Austin. The national finals are judged by a panel of prominent scientists and
mathematicians.
The Siemens Westinghouse Competition attracts entries from high school
science and math students throughout the country. Established in 1998, the Siemens Foundation

23 Idaho and Utah teachers will glean real world science and math
curriculum content for their classrooms

On Saturday, March 5, 2005, teachers from across the Treasure
Valley, around the state and as far away as Utah will gather for the
second day of Micron's "Engineering the Future:" A Micron Experience
workshop.
According to Alecia Baker , Micron's K-12 Program Manager, teachers
will be provided with hands-on activities that bring work science and
math applications to life in a way that they can then incorporate into
their classroom curriculum. Since 1995, through Micron's Boise-based K-12
program, the lives of more than 160,000 students, parents, teachers
and others involved in education have been touched.5M in grants and more than $2M of
in-kind support in the same time period, along with a steady stream of
community volunteers .
"Micron is providing avenues for students to prepare for and
envision themselves in the jobs of the future," Baker explained. "One
of the best ways to start the preparation is by investing in our
Chemistry, Math, Physics and Physical Science teachers.m.
A signature program of the New Jersey-based Siemens Foundation, the
Siemens Westinghouse Competition is the nation's premier research -based
science and math competition for high school students, and is administered by
the College Board. The 2004-05 $100,000 winners were Aaron
Goldin, San Dieguito High School Academy, Encinitas , CA (individual) who
created a device to convert ocean wave energy into electricity, and (Lucie)
Yueqi Guo and Xianlin Li of the North Carolina Schools for Science and

learning activity, beginning at the river and concluding inside
