The FFT accelerator performs phase retrieval 13 times faster than the
conventional system based on fastest CPU: a 1000-repetition phase retrieval
for 1024 x1024 pixel image reconstruction is done in mere 87 seconds, while
the conventional system takes 20 minutes to do the same. It is engaged
in research over a wide range of fields such as physics, chemistry,
bioscience, engineering , etc. from a very fundamental level to immediate
application.S. They have developed a
technique using phase-contrast methods to make images using the Advanced
Photon Source with exposure times on the order of submicroseconds.
Argonne and IBM are developing a plan for researchers to request
computation time on the IBM Blue Gene system nicknamed "BGW. The program includes high -end computing
resources not only at Argonne but also at DOE's Oak Ridge, Lawrence Berkeley
and Pacific Northwest national laboratories. A small number of large awards are
anticipated.

(IPFlex) today announced that they have jointly developed two-dimensional
fast Fourier transform accelerator (FFT accelerator)(1) using DAPDNA-2(2)
dynamically reconfigurable processor(3), shortening phase retrieval process by
an order of magnitude. It spends mere 87 seconds for a 1000-repetition phase
retrieval for 1024x1024 pixel image reconstruction, while conventional
CPU-based system spends more than 20 minutes to do the same. Until now, researchers had to either wait until entire sample
data was collected, or spend much time analyzing the intermediate data, before
deciding to proceed with the test. The
laboratory used IPFlex's DAPDNA-EB4 board with two DAPDNA-2s and implemented

its hardware configuration to provide the optimal circuitry for an application

Argonne Scientists Receive Distinguished Performance Awards

In 2003, he led a team of
engineers and technicians to complete the first in-cell tests to
simulate the effects of a hypothetical loss-of-coolant accident on high-
burnup reactor fuel. Choi also directed a theoretical study that led
