This launch, designated NROL-24 for the National Reconnaissance
Office, is one of seven initially assigned to ILS and the Lockheed
Martin (NYSE:LMT) Atlas V launcher under the Air Force's Evolved
Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) program. The first government EELV
launch of Atlas V is planned for April 2006. "Our

The Atlas V vehicle
has flown four times since its debut in 2002 - all successfully and
all for commercial customers. Aerojet's Block B SRB will be used on
Lockheed Martin's Atlas V launch vehicle, providing enhanced performance and
reliability.
This was the second test of the Block B SRB at Aerojet's new SRB test
stand at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Edwards Air Force Base. The five schools
participating in the FreeSPACE project were selected through the NASA Explorer
Schools program.

schools around the country to prepare and fly their experiments on a NASA
sounding rocket. Four of the teams were selected as part of the NASA Student
Involvement Program (NSIP) while the other five were selected as part of the
FreeSPACE program.
The FreeSPACE project offers students an opportunity to fly secondary
experiments on NASA Sounding Rocket Program missions.
