What One Local Coalition is Doing to Reform Secondary Education

PHILADELPHIA, Next week the School Reform
Commission will announce the approved charter school applications.
Teachers will participate in ongoing and extensive professional
development , including collaborative Japanese Lesson Study.
Every classroom will be equipped with five computers to aid computer
literacy and facilitate communication between teachers and parents. Governance
structure for the school will include active youth and school councils, a home
and school association, and the school board.

Long Island Mom Wins World Champion Martial Arts Title in Japan

To her
fellow nurses in the Cardiac Unit of North Shore Hospital on Long Island,
she's a friend and colleague.

To her mixed martial arts (MMA) trainer at Tiger
Schulmann's Karate, she's an inspiration. She first fought Tevi Sai
from France, winning by Submission in the first round. She was the winner of last year's Smack Girl ReMix
2004 tournament and a Japanese representative at this year's ADCC World
Championships .
When she walked into a Woman's Safe Seminar sponsored by Tiger Schulmann's
Karate in Oceanside , NY, she didn't know it then, but what she would learn
there would change her life forever. Having never lost a fight, Laura is the current Ring of Combat and
Reality Fighting Welterweight Champion and is now ranked as the Best Female
Mixed Martial Arts Fighter in the World.
