The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports

individuals eight years-of-age and older with developmental
disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical

Shawn performed exceptionally and brought home several gold medals
from the World Games and was the very first American of the games to
receive a gold medal. In Northern California 14,000 athletes
currently compete in 19 Olympic-style sports.

(Saturday afternoon), a Victory dance and Victory Happening (Saturday
evening).

The first
Special Olympics World Games held in Asia drew more than 2,000
athletes and 650 coaches from 80 countries around the world, as well
as thousands of family members , volunteers, spectators and journalists
from every continent. Fort Lewis is the main site for athletic competition and the
Weyerhaeuser/King County Aquatics Center hosts the aquatic competition.
